"There is no morality police": Bruno Retailleau reacts to the cancellation of the screening of the film "Barbie" in Noisy-le-Sec

A week after the mayor of Noisy-le-Sec forced him to cancel the open-air screening of the film Barbie , after receiving threats, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau denounced "pressure" which "is not acceptable".
"We are in France, and in France there is no morality or virtue police. This pressure from a violent minority that wants to halalize public space is unacceptable, just as the slightest retreat in the face of these community demands is unacceptable," the Interior Minister told BFMTV.
On Friday, August 8, Olivier Sarrabeyrouse, the PC mayor of Noisy-le-Sec, announced the cancellation of the screening of Greta Gerwig's hit film Barbie , which was scheduled to take place in the Londeau district. Municipal officials had received threats of violence accusing the film of harming the integrity of women and promoting homosexuality.
"False" arguments, according to the mayor of the city, which were put forward, according to him, by an "extreme minority of thugs", whose ideas are based on "obscurantism " and "fundamentalism", he accused in a press release dated August 11.
On the BFMTV set this Thursday, Olivier Sarrabeyrouse said he wanted to inform the perpetrators that he "would not leave it at that" and that "there is no cultural lawless zone in Noisy-le-Sec." He announced that he would file a complaint against unknown persons.
